The September birthstone Sapphire is widely desired for it’s superb rich blue colour and still remains a popular choice for many jewellery lovers.
Derived from the Greek word sappheiros, sapphire means ‘precious stone’ and is historically regarded as an important stone.
Sapphire has a long and proud tradition in culture and history. In the Middle Ages the gem was believed to protect those close to you from harm and also represented loyalty and trust.
The stone is commonly used in jewellery such as necklaces, bracelets, brooches and rings. Even Prince Charles presented Lady Diana with a sapphire engagement ring!
Sapphire can be found in a variety of colours including pink and yellow, and because of the remarkable hardness of sapphires— 9 on the Mohs scale, they are incredibly durable.
Sapphire is exceptional for calming and focusing the mind, allowing the release of mental tension and unwanted thoughts. It is said to open the mind to beauty and intuition, bring light and joy as it restores balance within the body.
